How Trauma Therapy Works
Using EMDR, IFS, and somatic approaches, I help people process what has happened so that the past can become part of their story without continuing to define how they experience themselves or live their lives.
Approaches may include:
-
EMDR Therapy
EMDR Therapy helps people process painful experiences that continue to affect how they feel and respond in the present. Through a structured approach that includes guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, difficult memories can become less overwhelming, allowing greater ease and choice.
-
Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems helps us understand the different parts of ourselves that carry pain or work to protect us. By approaching these parts with curiosity and compassion, we begin to understand their needs, creating greater trust within ourselves and more freedom in how we respond.
-
Somatic and Body-Based Therapy
Somatic and Body-Based Therapy helps us notice how difficult experiences shape the way we feel in our bodies. By gently attending to sensations, breath, and movement, we learn to recognize signs of distress, respond with care, and develop a greater sense of safety and steadiness.
-
Relational Psychotherapy
Relational Psychotherapy helps us understand how our experiences with others shape the way we relate to ourselves and those around us. Within a supportive therapeutic relationship, familiar patterns can be explored with openness and care, creating space for greater trust, authenticity, and connection.
-
Mindfulness
Mindfulness helps us bring gentle, attentive awareness to our thoughts, feelings, and bodily experiences. By learning to notice what arises without immediately judging or reacting, we create room to respond with greater compassion, feel more grounded, and reconnect with the present moment.
Common Questions
-
Yes. I work with adults experiencing trauma and PTSD; childhood, relational and complex trauma; and anxiety, shame or depression connected to past experiences. My approach integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic and relational psychotherapy.
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing experiences, often using eye movements or other back-and-forth stimulation. Using EMDR, IFS, and somatic approaches, I help people process what has happened so that the past can become part of their story without continuing to define how they experience themselves or live their lives.
-
IFS integrates naturally with my EMDR and somatic work, allowing us to respect the pace and protective wisdom of your whole system. IFS helps us understand and care for the parts of you that have been protecting you, while EMDR helps reprocess the experiences those parts have been carrying.
-
This is very common. Insight alone is rarely enough. Healing deepens when we can experience, not simply understand, the care our protective parts need. Sometimes healing happens through an experience that reaches somewhere words and insight alone cannot.
